Envivio adds HD and 3GPP streaming to three-screen encoder platform

Envivio Inc. has added support for HD encoding, plus 3GPP and 3GPP2 mobile streaming profiles for unicast mobile TV, to its 4Caster C4 convergence encoding system. The company claims the product is the "world’s first to provide video compression for all three screens of consumer video – TVs, PCs and mobile devices – on a single platform." The C4 platform will take multiple channels of content and encode them simultaneously to deliver multiple mobile TV profiles, multiple Internet TV profiles, or SD and HD IPTV profiles.

Envivio claims that having all compression performed by a single, flexible encoding platform brings significant capital savings and operational efficiencies for operators. “Consumer demands and operators’ requirements are expanding constantly,” adds Julien Signès, the company's President and CEO. "The C4 encoder provides operators with a compression platform that delivers a full range of services today, but which is also flexible enough to accommodate these changing requirements in the future.

"Our unique Intel-based architecture enables us to evolve our product features and compression performance rapidly to ensure that Envivio, and our customers, stay ahead of the competition”.

The 4Caster C4 hardware platform uses an Intel-based architecture. The embedded software encoding core enables customers to alter the compression capabilities of the encoder as required with a simple software license key. "This unique compression architecture offers levels of service flexibility and encoding performance upgradeability not possible with traditional hardware-only encoding platforms," says the San Francisco based vendor. "Encoding performance can be upgraded with each software release without the need to buy and install new hardware."

Envivio will be demonstrating the its three-screen encoding solution during NAB next week (Booth SU13205).
